Temporal!
2 Corinthians 4:18 “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
Today, I want to confirm something that has been placed deep down inside the city of your soul. It might be hidden from you because of what you are going through. You may be too consumed with the problems you are facing to remember it, but it is there, and it is a promise that has been given to us by our Father in heaven.
About two months ago, as I was driving home, I began to think on one of the challenges that I was facing. During the drive, I came to a red light. I sat there in an entirely different world than the one I was actually driving in. Finally, the Lord spoke something to me that brought me back to “consciousness.” He said, “Don’t let temporal things destroy your faith.” When He spoke that, it was like a light went off, and I got it immediately. Even so, the more I think on it, the more I really “get it.”
Everything we see is truly temporal. The problem is that we put so much faith in it because we can see it, touch it, smell it, bend it, break it, mold it, change it, trade it, or discard it. Because temporal things are in our realm, we forget about the highest realm. We forget about where the blessings come from, which were created for us before we even got here. We forget about the authority that we have to loose on earth what is in heaven. We forget that we have authority over our situations merely by speaking to them because God made us like Him!
One of the major reasons some people walk like they are defeated, talk like they are defeated or act like they are defeated is because they don’t realize that their situation is temporal. Once we realize that we have an eternal God with us in the midst of our temporal problems, then the temporal things will not get the best of us.
As you see new buildings of glass and steel,
one built on flat land, another erected on hill – remember, they are temporal.
As sports cars zip by you as though you’re driving slow
and as you pass the lime green Pinto in need of a tow – remember, they are temporal.
Whenever you buy the new clothes and put the old ones to rest,
like those parachute pants and that “I Love Alf” vest – remember, they are temporal.
And of course we can’t forget your trip to the grocery store,
the place where you constantly have to buy more.
No matter what you buy, what you taste, touch, or see,
temporal is what it is and temporal is all it will ever be.
So don’t let problems or pains get the best of you,
What you’re facing is merely temporal, only a test for you.
God has not left or forgotten; He remembers you’re there,
You always and forever will be in His special care.
Remember, don’t fret nor fear; cry a victorious shout,
for the God you serve has worked that “temporal thing” out.
