Still The Greatest!
Psalms 11:1 “I trust in the Lord for protection. So why do you say to me, ‘Fly to the mountains for safety!’ “
For some of us, Father’s Day is a time to reminisce on “the good ol’ days.” The times when we thought our dad could do no wrong and when he was truly the “greatest.” During those days, we weren’t too worried about anyone “messing” with us. We didn’t have any concern regarding the bullies because all we had to do was say “I’m going to tell my daddy,” and things would be placed back in order. There was no running from anyone because just the threat of us telling daddy was enough to keep most “jokers” in place.
From our text, David takes pretty much the same stance that we mentioned in the previous paragraph. It is because of His trust in the Lord that He seeks the Lord for protection. But what I really like is the question that David leaves the doubters and nay sayers to ponder: “Why (or How) can you ask me to run to the mountains for safety?”
Now if you have an inkling of an idea of who David’s Protector is, then you can understand why he poses this question, and if you have the same Protector, then you can truly proclaim the same thing. You can stand toe to toe with the devil himself and tell him, “With the Father that I have, why in the world did you think I would run from anything or anyone — especially you? You know who my Father is, and you know how He protects and keeps me. You know that He is the lifter up of my head and He won’t ever let me lose to you. So what were you thinking when you asked me to run? For running is not an option, but running over you is!”
Beloved, please realize this: If you’re in a fight with another person, all you’ve got to be is greater than the person you are fighting. You don’t have to be greater than the ring announcer or greater than the hotdog salesman. All you have to do to win is be greater than the person with whom you are going toe to toe; the word of God confirms that when the devil (or the world) is the opponent, then he (or it) doesn’t have a chance:
1 John 4:4 – “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
So as a reminder right before Father’s Day, you need to know that God is not just David’s heavenly Father but yours as well. He is the King of glory! He is the LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle (Psalms 24:8). He is always victorious in every fight, and He has never lost a war. He is the Champion of champions, the King of kings, and the Lord of Lords because He is still the Greatest—and the Greatest lives inside of you!!
